History:

Turnwright Limited was established as an engineering firm in 1977 in Leytonstone, East London.

Originally specialising in small items and hydraulic parts a reputation was quickly built for its ‘Can Do’ attitude.

Ellison Hospital Equipment became a regular customer and bespoke hydraulic systems for their beds were designed and built, eventually with over thirty thousand Kings Fund systems plus many for Couches and other types of variable height equipment being supplied.

Other equipment manufacturers also sourced hydraulic pumps and parts from our factory.

Naturally as part of our product support we became involved with servicing equipment on site and our technicians were often asked to service other equipment, from many manufacturers, whilst they were there. This led on to purchasing & stocking of all types of spares as well as wheels and castors.

In 1979 the premises were too small to allow continued growth so the move was made to the Barking Industrial Park where there was plenty of room for expansion into the future.

Over the course of the next few years Turnwright Limited invested in Computer controlled manufacturing techniques and still pursues a policy of using the latest high tech tools and processes to make its products.

By now our reputation had spread far and wide and customers were sending ‘Obsolete’ parts to us for manufacture as it was a high cost to scrap a bed for want of a small part no longer made by the original supplier. We are still undertaking new projects and our spares staff work very hard to ensure ‘Right Part First Time’. We have most of our stock lines on our system with digital pictures so we can e mail you with a picture of the part you are requesting, just to make sure.

In the late 1980’s the move to Care In The Community saw a rapid expansion of work done in private houses and this in turn led to our technicians becoming concerned as to why patients were in the main living area of the home, often with no privacy or peace & quiet. Further investigation showed that this was because of a lack of suitable beds. The standard, heavy, hospital bed was being supplied for home nursing. As a result the Turnwright Community Bed was born. This too has grown with the new needs and electrically operated versions as well as wider, narrower, longer, shorter & heavy duty specials have been made to suit an enormous variety of clients. Our beds are in use all over the UK and our client base includes a huge number of NHS Hospitals & Trusts, Large and small private pursing groups as well as Social Services, Community Loans and individuals. The bed received a Design Council Award for Design Innovation.

Further sales growth has seen a move into more units on the Park with the offices and stores areas being separated from the factory area.

The Company & it’s staff are committed to supporting our client base and E procurement is under way as well as ‘Just In Time’ systems to back up the new short delivery times demanded by Social Services.

We also have regard for our position within the community and would draw your attention to our Employment & Environmental Policies. We are also working towards Green Mark Level 2 which demonstrates, by official recognition, our commitment to the environment and our surroundings.
