Mattress Cleaning

The following instructions can be followed using basic equipment to clean any air mattress equipment prior to repair. Refer to manufacturers instructions if available.

WEAR SUITABLE PROTECTIVE CLOTHING: Gloves & Apron etc.

DISCONNECT THE UNIT FROM THE MAINS ELECTRICAL SUPPLY.

1. Use a work surface with a wipe down finish i.e. A laminate or plastic finish.

2. Clean the surface carefully with a solution of 2% Sodium Hypochlorite. DO NOT USE PHENOL BASED CLEANERS unless the mattress states they can be used.

3. Lay the mattress out fully with the 'patient surface' uppermost.

4. Fold the mattress in half end to end. i.e. Fold the foot end up to the head end.

5. Clean the work surface and the underneath of the mattress with a clean solution of Sodium Hypochlorite.

6. Unfold the mattress and re fold with the head to the foot. Now clean both table and underside of mattress.

7. Unfold mattress fully and clean all surfaces.

8. Inspect surfaces for damage and open mattress zips/press studs to check for contamination INSIDE the outer cover. If found the mattress cover may be porous and not functioning correctly.

9. If possible the outer covers can be laundered.

10. ENSURE THE ELECTRICAL PARTS are disconnected from the mains. Clean the pump unit housing with a damp cloth soaked in the above solution. DO NOT disassemble any electrical parts. Any electrical parts MUST NOT be soaked or immersed in liquids. (Some mattresses have the pump units built into the mattress itself & care must be taken if you suspect this is the case. The mattress will be very heavy)

11. Dry all parts with a clean, lint free, cloth.

12. Dispose of all cleaning materials in line with Health & Safety and Environmental guidelines
